For three straight games, Converge played every bit like a playoff contender and on Wednesday night, the FiberXers were able to add the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters to their growing list of victims with a smashing 107-97 triumph in the PBA Philippine Cup Wednesday at the Philsports Arena.
Coming on the heels of their impressive win against back-to-back champions TNT 5G, the FiberXers brought their new found energy against the Elasto Painters, who continued to miss the services of key players like Beau Belga, Caelan Tiongson and Luis Villegas.
Twin towers Justin Arana and Justine Baltazar came away with double-double performances while Deschon Winston and Alec Stockton joined forces in offense as the FiberXers displayed all but strong signal in defeating the Elasto Painters.
Arana produced 18 points and pulled down 17 rebounds while Baltazar, this season’s top overall rookie pick, produced 13 points and 22 boards for Converge. Winston and Stockton led the scoring with 24 points apiece as the FiberXers picked up their third straight victory to improve their record to 4-2.
The loss was the second in four games for the shorthanded Elasto Painters, who found themselves clobbered in the rebounding battle. Converge outrebounded Rain or Shine, 62-40.
