Ginebra’s gamble on David pays off

There must be a better reason why Barangay Ginbera has put old reliable LA Tenorio in the unrestricted free agent list to make way for Jayson David.

Plucked out from the inactive role, David immediately made his presence felt and pumped in 25 points and missed a rebound away from posting a double-double performance as Barangay Ginebra dominated NorthPort, 131-106, in the PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday night at the Philsports Arena.

The news about Tenorio being relegated to UFA came as a big shock to Ginebra fans, but head coach Tim Cone made sure such decision would be backed up by David’s big game.

“Jayson has paid the price. Has done the things he needed to do. He’s the guy that really comes to work really, everyday and he was really the players’ that were really talking about in the preseason when we came back from the finals,” said Cone.

“He was the MVP in the preseason and we were trying to find ways to get him into the line up because we have a veteran line up and this is something we wanted to do for awhile, to get Jayson into the line up.”

David brings the youth and the enthusiasm the Gin Kings had been needing the past few years.
