Road Warriors secure playoff bonus, but cautious on potential q’finals meltdown

It happened to them six years ago when the NLEX Road Warriors secured their previous best elimination round campaign and locked the No.1 spot and the twice-to-beat advantage in the PBA Govenors’ Cup.

But just when the Road Warriors, then being coached by Yeng Guiao, were bound to what could have been a potential Final Four run turned out to be a heartbreaker instead as they lost twice in a row to the NorthPort Batang Pier in the quarterfinal round.

The Road Warriors don’t want to get overexcited even after securing the playoff bonus and head coach Jong Uichico knows it.

“I don’t think I can call it a success this time,” said Uichico on the heels of his team’s 107-99 victory over Magnolia Friday that guaranteed the Road Warriors a twice-to-beat advantage.

The Road Warriors rallied from a 19-poin deficit in the first half behind a late explosion from Rober Bolick, who pumped in 21 of his total 25 points to lead the charge for his squad.

Although success isn’t guaranteed yet at this early stage of the tournament, Uichico is pleased with the effort being shown by the entire squad.
