Japeth Aguilar delivered a game-winning jumper in the last 1.7 seconds to lift Barangay Ginebra to a tense 101-99 win over hard-fighting NLEX in the PBA Philippine Cup Friday night at the Philsports Arena.
Aguilar’s jumper came right after RK Ilagan knotted the count with a game-tying triple as the Bossing were getting ready to pull off a possible upset.
But the 6-foot-9 center had no plans of yielding to the challenge put up by Blackwater as he stepped up and knocked down that cold-blooded jumper at the corner to save Barangay Ginebra from a proverbial upset loss.
Aguilar’s heroics overshadowed NLEX’s sixth straight win, its longest in franchise history, after the Road Warriors navigated a tough traffic before winning over Converge, 88-83, in the other game.
Following its latest win, NLEX vaulted into a share of the lead with Magnolia as they now carry identical win-loss marks of 6-1.
