Orphaned by its top gun, Jayson Tatum, who was sidelined by an Achilles injury, the Boston Celtics returned home determined to keep the fight going and didn’t let their ailing superstar and their fans disappointed.
Derrick White and Jaylen Brown combined for 60 points while the rest of the Celtics came out ready to play better as a team and refuse to fold up on their way to winning Game 5, 127-102, over the New York Knicks at the TD Garden in Boston on Thursday.
White had to step up big offensively, scoring 34 points, including seven three-point shots.
Brown, on the other hand, came away with a double-double performance of 26 points and 12 assists while also pulling down eight boards in a solid, all-around performance.
The Celtics dedicated their win to Tatum and they will have to endure the Knicks for a couple of more games to keep their title retention bid alive.
