Barangay Ginebra plays its second game in three days and faces an early acid test against San Miguel Beer as action in the PBA Philippine Cup returns on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Gin Kings had a walk in the park as they strolled past the Terrafirma Dyip, 101-80, but they expect to encounter rough sailing when they take on the Beermen, the winningest team in the PBA.
Ginebra and San Miguel Beer clash in the main game at 7:30 p.m. right after the tiff between Blackwater and NorthPort at 5 p.m.
“It’s a hard way to start the conference. We’re coming in late like this,” said Ginebra coach Tim Cone. “We tried to get some rest then turn around in three days. I remember during our grand slam campaign with Purefoods. We have three days between our championship and our first game.”
Cone is glad to accept the challenge this early, hoping that his wards could recover fast enough and get better as the tournament progresses.
But the Gin Kings will be facing a San Miguel team aching to bounce back from a painful overtime loss against Magnolia and now the Beermen are looking to get back on the winning track and avoid losing back-to-back games.
