Rudy Gobert preserved his best game in years in a tough close out game on the road, but the 7-foot-2 veteran center came out to play and deliver the knockout blow on the LA Lakers.
Gobert had a near 20-30 game and has been a one man wrecking crew down low as he was simply head and shoulders above the rest, leading the Minnesota Timberwolves to a hard-fought 103-96 win over the Lakers at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Thursday morning.
With the win, the Timberwolves advanced to the second round of the playoffs after finishing off the Lakers, 4-1.
Gobert had 27 points and 24 rebounds, including nine on the offensive end as he proved to be a match up problem for the Lakers, who simply didn’t have anyone to hold a candle against the Frenchman.
It was the first 20-20 game for Gobert in the last two years, but this one proved to be more special as it came at a time when he had to pick up the slack from resident star Anthony Edwards.
Edwards was virtually quiet for the most part of the match, hitting only 5-of-19 from the field.
