Junior Altas outlast Staglets, rule NDSL U-19 caging

University of Perpetual Help’s remarkable run in the NDSL under-19 Basketball Series ended the way it wanted it to happen — as the inaugural champion of this multi-sports event — and on Thursday, the Junior Altas made history by becoming the first junior champion when it defeated the San Sebastian Staglets, 74-69, in their championship match at the Metpark Sports Center.

Jim Corpuz bucked an error-prone game with a solid double-double performance to power the Junior Altas to the championship. He finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds while also dishing out four assists and completing three steals.

Corpuz was backed up by Brent Rosales, who added 13 markers as the Junior Altas recovered from a sluggish start and started setting the tone in the second period.

But the Junior Altas also made their presence felt on the defensive end, holding down the Staglets to just 36.6% shooting from the field (26-of-71).
