It took 25 years before the New York Knicks made their way back to the Eastern Conference finals and there’s no fitting way to return than to beat the reigning NBA champions Boston Celtics.
The Celtics felt the absence of Jayson Tatum in Game 6 and the Knicks took advantage, finishing off their rivals with a 119-81 win to set up a conference championship showdown with the Indiana Pacers Saturday at the Madison Square Garden.
Long-time basketball fans are anticipating the clash of these two teams which figured in memorable battles during the 1990s.
In reaching the conference championship round finals for the first time since 2000, the Knicks drew firepower from three players who ended up with 20 points or more in closing out the series.
Karl Anthoiny-Towns, picked up right before the trade deadline by the Knicks, came away with a double-double performance of 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Jalen Brunson submitted another solid numbers of 23 points, six rebounds and six assists. Mikal Bridges added 22 points for New York, which outrebounded Boston, 55-36.
