Patrick Zoilo made up for an early blunder while Vincent Tibang scored the go-ahead basket as the dynamic backcourt duo of Smash carried their squad to an inspiring 52-51 win over Adamson to kick off the opening of the inaugural National Developmental Sports League Basketball Series at the Metpark Arena.
Smash also came away with a big stop at the other end, forcing Precious Jonah to commit a traveling violation to preserve the win — and make an impressive debut win in the under-25 division of this basketball tournament, part of the multi-sports league that also has other sports disciplines like volleyball, billiards and chess among others.
Tibang finished with 17 points as the spitfire guard was at the right place at the right time to deliver the game-winning basket with still two seconds left.
Zoilo, on the other hand, contributed 14 points, as his fastbreak lay up coming off a steal more than made up for his ill-advised, hurried three-point shot earlier. That basket shoved his team within striking distance and kept Smash in the thick of the fight.
Team captain Raphael Flores nearly had a double-double game as he posted 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
