Nuggets outlast Thunder in Game 1 behind last action hero Gordon

Nikola Jokic posted monster numbers at the start of the Denver Nuggets’ second round playoff match with the Oklahoma Thunder, but it was Aaron Gordon who stole the spotlight in the endgame.

Gordon scored his team’s last five points, including the game-winning trey with 2.8 seconds left, as the Nuggets completed the heist on the road with a 121-119 come-from-behind victory in Game 1 of their best-of-seven second round playoff series at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma on Tuesday.

Down by nine, 106-115, with only less than three minutes to go, the Nuggets came back strong with an 8-0 run anchored on Jokic, who submitted MVP-type numbers of 42 points and 22 rebounds.

But Jokic’s solid performance all game long had to be complemented by the last-minute heroics of Gordon, who ended up with 22 points, including that backbreaking trey that allowed the Nuggets to snatch Game 1 on the road.

Jama Murray added 21 points, six rebounds and six assists while veteran star Russell Westbrook added 18 points coming off the bench. Christian Braun also finished with a double-double performance of 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Nuggets.
