Smash Basketball drubbed Manuel Luis Quezon University, 81-44, in the under-25 game of the NDSL Basketball Series on Monday at the Metpark Sports Arena.
A big second quarter blitz was all Smash needed in putting away the Stallions, who were outscored by their rivals, 12-27, in that period alone.
Smash’s attack was led by Patrick Zoilo, who finished with 14 points while Eugene Gonzales added 13. Raphael Flores had a double-double performance of 11 points and 12 boards while Patrick Garcia also had 11.
But defense also proved to be the biggest weapon of Smash which held MLQU to just 27.4% shooting from the field.
With its defense working like clockwork, Smash was able to force 26 turnovers on MLQU, which it then translated to 24 points. Smash also produced more points coming from its bench players, 42, as against only 24 for the Stallions.
