Just a day after absorbing a painful defeat after squandering a 17-point lead, home team Passi bounced back strong and came through with an inspiring 111-109 win over the erstwhile undefeated Aces in The Asian Tournament at the City of Passi Arena in Iloilo.
The Titans cemented the win with a big stop in the final 17 seconds, forcing the Aces to a 14-second shot clock violation, then Axel Doromal split his charities to ensure the win for the home team.
Doromal made his first free throw, then deliberately missed the second shot, knowing that the Aces didn’t have any timeouts left.
Six players ended up in double figures for Passi led by Las Coulibaly’s double-double game.
Coulibaly came away with 16 points and 13 rebounds as he continued to be the source of strength inside for the Titans.
Darrel Villarosa led Passi’s production with 19 followed by Joseph Nalos’ 18 markers. Doromal chipped in 15 while Rey Anthony Peralta contributed 14 as the Titans displayed balance firepower.
In fact, Passi’s bench outscored its rival, 57-37.
Despite shooting 55% (48-of-87), the Aces just coudn’t close it out as they absorbed their first loss in four games.
Denzel Wong caught fire and finished with 33 markers, but he failed to get the job done in the last two possessions as the Aces committed a shot clock violation with the ball was in his hands. Wong was also a split second too late to get off a shot in the final offensive thrust by the visiting team.
